Now is the moment for the GCC to evolve into a leader in marine data infrastructure:

  • DP World is to expand its flagship Jebel Ali Port with the construction of Terminal 4, costing S1.6bn. The planned construction work will see the port’s capacity increase by 3.1-million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) by 2018, taking its overall capacity to 22.1-million TEU. That means more needs for port equipment, costal and water data and weather forecast.
  • Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract for Phase 4 and 5 of the Dubai Water Canal Project. According to the contract, which amounts to Dh703 million, works in both phases are set for completion by the end of September this year.
  • In January 2016, Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) and Drydocks World have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create an industrial entity to strengthen maritime projects in the UAE and across the GCC involving the latest infrastructure. The MoU aims to enhance knowledge and marine data transfer and capabilities exchange between the two companies and is the basis for future cooperation agreements.
  • Port of Duqm (Oman) plans massive development in next 3 years 2016, 2017 and 2018 in view of the hectic activities in progress to complete the final development work at the port for commencing fully-fledged operations and the last construction packages for completing the work.
